STATEMENT

The City of Székesfehérvár has issued a new call for bids for the sale of our club

At its meeting on Friday, the Székesfehérvár City Council discussed the future of Videoton FC Fehérvár.

Following the guidelines established when it took over the football club, the local city government is launching a new, single-round bidding process for the sale of the business entity operating the club, with a deadline of the 15th June. The intention is to continue assisting the new owner as a constructive, cooperative partner in developing a sustainable and successful club model that ensures the future survival and development of football in the city of Székesfehérvár. Mayor Dr. András Cser-Palkovics provided details following the general assembly.

The Municipality of Székesfehérvár purchased the limited liability company operating Videoton FC Fehérvár in June 2025—for 1 forint, following an offer from the previous owner. The city had already set strict conditions at that time: the most important of these are that the Municipality cannot and does not wish to finance the first team with public funds, and in this context, it intends to remain the club’s owner for a maximum of one season, as the senior team’s funding is secured for one season (i.e., until Q3 2026) without municipal contribution. After several months of preparatory and fact-finding work, the City Council published a call for bids in November 2025 for the sale of shares in “FEHÉRVÁR F. C.” Sports Services and Commercial Limited Liability Company.

To ensure that Videoton FC Fehérvár is placed in competent, caring, and capable hands, and to enable the City Council to thoroughly assess the professional competence of the applicants as well as their commitment to the sport and the team, a two-round application process has been launched. Following the conclusion of the first round, the General Assembly of Székesfehérvár—at its meeting on January 16, 2026—declared this tender unsuccessful, stating that it would continue discussions with the two applicants to date, as well as with other domestic and international interested parties, and issue a new tender.

Within the relevant legal regulations, and as a result of the preparations made over the past few months, the General Assembly made the decision at its meeting on Friday, May 22: it issued a new, single-round tender for the sale of the limited liability company operating Videoton FC Fehérvár.

The Municipality of Székesfehérvár finds itself in a unique situation, as it must comply with regulations governing the public sector while also adhering to standard business practices, and find a new owner who will ensure that Videoton FC Fehérvár remains in good hands over the long term. The tender therefore includes, in addition to specific financial and legal guarantees, further criteria—weighted in the evaluation—which, it is hoped, will foster competition among the bidders and thus lead to the best decision regarding the continued operation of this sports club, which is also important for the identity of Székesfehérvár.

Following the closed session, Dr. András Cser-Palkovics announced that, in accordance with the General Assembly’s decision, the sale of Fehérvár FC Kft.’s shares would proceed; the detailed call for bids is expected to be published on the city’s website on Tuesday, May 26. “The purpose of the tender is for the Municipality to sell its entire stake to an investor who, in addition to paying the purchase price, can also guarantee the club’s professional and financial stability in the coming years,” said the mayor, who revealed that the submission deadline is mid-June, and that following the evaluation period, they plan to convene a general meeting on July 1, which—they hope—will be able to declare the bid valid and successful, meaning they will find a new owner for the club. The Mayor emphasized that several interested parties have recently expressed their intention to participate, and they hope that these parties will actually take part in the currently open tender. The call for bids includes numerous safeguards; the goal is to find a stable owner for Videoton FC Fehérvár who can provide adequate financial, professional, and legal guarantees.

In accordance with the decision of the General Assembly, the Municipality of Székesfehérvár intends to remain a constructive partner to the Company even after the sale of its shares, with the aim of working together with the new owner to establish a sustainable, successful club model that ensures the continued existence and development of football in Székesfehérvár.
