Vidi do well in the UEFA Cup and finish the season in 5th place.

The 1974-75 season started under the management of Ferenc Kovacs. It became clearer that he wished to build the team with players coming through the youth system. Youth team players Ferenc Csongradi, Tibro Vegy and Lajos Majer all made the step up to the first team set-up. There was one new player with defender Karoly Czeczeli coming in from Egri Dozsa. Departures included forward Attila Bogati, defender Istvan Mester and Laszlo Csukovics who finished his playing career.
The period of getting stronger
Pre-season included three friendly games with foreign opponents. Wienna were beaten 2-1 as were FC Wismut 3-2. The team also drew 2-2 with the Iranian national team. Vidi took part in the summer champions tournament with a win over Ferencvaros 3-1, a 0-0 draw with Honved, which ended in a 5-4 penalty shootout success. However, there was also a 3-1 loss to Vasas to finish in second place.
The new season started with 2 draws against Tatabanya 1-1 and 0-0 against Diosgyőr. Salgotarjan were beaten 2-1 in the first win of the new campaign. Vidi travelled to the home of Ferencvaros after losing 1-0 to Bekescsaba. There were around 30,000 present at the Ulloi ut stadium in Budapest. A big battle produced a good 3-2 win with the goals coming that evening from Tieber (2), and Nyitrai. The game had been a tough one but it confirmed that the team were getting stronger and heading in the right direction.
The autumn season ended with 5 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats to pick up 16 points and sit in 5th place.
No shame in the UEFA cup
The team participated in the UEFA Cup for the first time in the clubs history in the autumn. The adventure began in Italy at the home of FC Napoli. Vidi played well and were worthy opponents but it was the Napoli side that emerged 2-0 winners.
Around 10,000 were interested in the return leg in Fehervar. Vidi looked dangerous from the first minute as they attacked the Napoli goal. Tibor Wollek put Vidi ahead on 9 minutes but the Italians were able to level after 19 minutes to make it 1-1. Szalmasy almost put Videoton back in the lead as he ran onto a back pass, but the keeper was able to clear the danger. There were no further goals as Vidi slipped out 3-1 on aggregate.

One game less over the spring
Spring started with a 1-1 draw against Ferencvaros. Goals from Czeczeli, Wollek and Tieber secured a 3-2 win over Győr, who had beaten Vidi 5-0 in the autumn.
There were some poorer results mixed in including the 4-1 loss to Budapest Honved. There was also a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Vasas. However, the spring went better for the team and a good 6-1 in over Tatabanya was the icing on the cake.
MTK and VM merged during the course of the league season and that meant that there would be one less game over the spring season. The autumn result was also expunged by the Hungarian FA. The Spring ended with 5 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats to secure a final 5th place in the table. The overall stats saw 9 wins, 10 draws and 9 losses.
The Hungarian cup also produced good performances. There wins over Dunaujvaros, MAV and ZTE Dozsa. Haladas were also knocked out before MTK won 1-0 to end the cup that season for the red and blues.
