Match Report: A Huszti header gives Vidi the 3 points

A 69th minute goal from Huszti earned Vidi all three points at the home of DVTK on Sunday.

The two sides met for the 68th time in a first division game on Sunday. The match in Miskolc was the 34th time Vidi and DVTK had faced each other in that city. The two had gone into the game having each won 15 matches with just 4 drawn previously. Marko Nikolic was looking for his team to make it back to back wins following the midweek 3-1 victory over Mezokovesd. Vidi knew that three points would lift them up to third place in the OTP league. There was a starting place in the home side for Matyas Tayti, while on loan Vidi player Bence Szabo took his place on the subs bench.

The opening minutes saw both teams try to gain the upper hand in terms of possession. There were 6 minutes on the clock when a powerful Hadzic shot flew over the goal. A header from Brkovic at the other end did not find the target for the Miskolc side. A nice move from Vidi on 18 minutes ended with a cross in from Fiola, which Huszti hit over the bar from close range. Vidi won several corners in the opening period, but they could not find a way through the home defence. The DVTK supporters had to hold their breath on one occasion when Stopira sent a header from a Huszti corner wide of the post.

The action continued with Huszti taking aim at Rados in the home goal after 37 minutes. However, the ball went wide of the left post. Former Barcelona academy player Tajti then hit a 22 meter shot at goal, but Tujvel dealt with it comfortably with three minutes left of the first half.

The sides came out for the second half without any changes. The general pattern of the game remained similar to the first 45 minutes. Another Huszti corner on 54 minutes ended with a Stopira header, but the ball went the wrong side of the post. Both managers then made substitutions after 55 minutes: Kovacs came off in place of Bosnian striker Hodzic, while Bacsa replaced Vernes for the red and whites. The biggest chance of the game arrived on 66 minutes when Nego curled a lovely shot just wide of the far post from 21 meters.

The all-important breakthrough arrived after 70 minutes when sub Milanov brought Patkai into play and the midfielder curled an inviting ball over to the far post for Huszti to bravely head into the back of the DVTK net (0-1). The midfielder stuck his head where it hurt and his courage paid off to silence the home crowd.

Hodzic had a low shot saved by the Diosgyőr keeper a couple of minutes later, with the rebound falling to Huszti, whose right footed curling effort just went wide of the post. Vidi enjoyed more of the ball and a Huszti cross moments later was flicked on by Scepovic and the ball eventually went wide following a Huszti shot. The last 10 minutes of the game saw DVTK push forward in search of an equaliser. Tajti hit a long range shot on 85 minutes, which went wide, but it was a big chance for the home side.

The biggest chance for the Miskolc side came on 92 minutes when first Bacsa passed to Hasani, whose shot at goal, but it was saved by Tujvel, with the rebound seeing Makrai trying to aim for the right corner, but again the visiting keeper managed to get his hand to it. The final whistle blew and Vidi climb to third in the table with a game in hand of the others. The Fehervar side have picked up 6 valuable points during the week.

Vidi are next in action on Thursday evening when they face Chelsea in London. The match kicks off at 20:00pm local time in what will be match 2 of the Europa League group stage.
