JÓZSEF KOVÁCS
A talented defender who was born close to lake Balaton in Hungary. Kovács joined Videoton in 1964 and stayed for 12 seasons, managing to make 315 appearances during that period, whilst scoring 17 in the process. His first division debut came in 1968, and he was a member of the Videoton side, which finished runners up in the first division in season 1975-76. He was due to join Vasas a year later, but was not allowed to leave. He finally left Fehervar in 1980 when he moved to Ujpest, where he went on to play 80 times for the Budapest side. The popular defender also won 18 full caps for Hungary between 1971-79. Kovács remains one of the best defenders to have played for Vidi, and was very close to picking up a championship winners medal during his period with the club.

PETER DISZTL
Peter Disztl remains the best goalkeeper ever to have played for Videoton. Born in Baja, Hungary, he went on to play in goal for Vidi in a total of 217 games, before further spells in East Germany and several other Hungarian clubs. Disztl was a member of the 1986 world cup squad, when the Hungarians were one of the best in Europe. He collected 37 caps for his country, before moving into coaching for Vasas and then to his current club, Videoton in the role of goalkeeping coach. Disztl was also one of the heroes of the 1985 side that went all the way to the UEFA cup final, where Videoton eventually lost to Real Madrid in a two-legged affair.

LAJOS MÁJER
Májer was born in August 1956 and went on to become a real star of Hungarian football. He was a very quick right wing player, and part of the 1985 UEFA cup run. He made his debut in the 1974 season, going on to make a further 288 appearances, which also brought 54 goals for Videoton. Májer was also capped 3 times for Hungary. He will probably be best remembered for his winning goal at the Bernabau stadium in Madrid, on a glorious night for Videoton. He went on to have short spells in Germany and Austria after leaving Vidi. He tragically passed away in a car accident in 1998. However, his dangerous runs down the right side will forever remain close to the clubs supporters.

TIBOR VEGH
Vegh joined the club as a young 12 year old in 1968, ending up making his first team debut in 1974. He was part of the runners up side of 1974-75, and later went on to captain the side, most notably during the UEFA cup campaign. He was the only player to play in all 12 UEFA cup games of that historic season. He made an amazing total of 419 games, scoring 7 times in a successful playing career. He later went on to become a manager for several sides in Austria. Vegh was given his first and only international cap in 1987.
JANOS NAGY Nagy was a midfield player who joined from Debrecen, back in 1969. Nagy remained with the Fehervar side for the next ten years, making 269 appearances during that time. His contribution from midfield saw him score 56 times in those games. He eventually finished his playing career in 1982 at his first club, Debrecen, but he also managed to play 49 times for Dunaujvaros. Nagy represented his country in 9 internationals, with the first cap coming in 1971 in a 0-3 defeat to Bulgaria. He later went on to take a refereeing badge, with his debut in the first division coming in 1987 in a match between ZTE and Siofok. |
