Puskas Academy
Hungarian football’s modern training facilities can be found at Felcsut, under the name of the Ferenc Puskas Football Academy. The academy has several technical pitches test halls, which were planned and designed by the current manager of Videoton, Gyorgy Mezey. The facilities are continuously being expanded, with new pitches being created. However, at Felcsut it is not the quantity but the quality that is important. The key area is the functionality, with each providing a specific exercise related to a special task, which helps to overcome any technical deficiencies, as well as developing knowledge at the same time.
Equally important to this development are the tests carried out by players, which take place twice a year, to help keep track of their development. It accurately shows the dynamics of the development, while also following the quality of the professional work. It also helps to show any areas that need improving on, as well as comparing the results of the various age groups. It also displays the relationship between each successive generation.
Our club is very proud of the fact that FIFA president Mr Sepp Blatter visited the facilities at the Puskas Academy in 2009. Blatter, together with the widow of Ferenc Puskas, as well as the founder of the Academy, Viktor Orban, the present Prime Minister of Hungary, announced the creation of the new FIFA Puskas award during that visit. The first winner of this award went to Portuguese star Ronaldo, for his contribution for Manchester United during the 2008-09 season.
The modern facilities can be found close to Budapest, just off the M1 motorway, towards the west of the capital city.
